Beattie Outdoor Solutions recently completed a full backyard transformation for a homeowner in Good Hope who was dealing with a slowly failing timber retaining wall caused by improper installation. The original wall was no longer providing adequate support, creating drainage and safety concerns, and limiting the homeowner’s ability to enjoy the outdoor space. Our team removed the failing structure and designed a long-term solution that would be both structurally sound and visually appealing.

To stabilize the slope and improve usability, we installed a double-tiered retaining wall system engineered for durability and proper drainage. This tiered design not only improves soil retention but also adds depth and visual interest to the landscape. On top of the lower retaining wall, we constructed a curved seating wall that defines the patio area and provides comfortable built-in seating around the fire pit, creating a natural gathering space for family and guests.

The patio area was designed to connect seamlessly with a new 16x24 wood deck, which we built with custom steps leading directly down to the fire pit and seating wall. This layout improves flow between the home and backyard while making the outdoor living area feel like an extension of the house. The deck and hardscape combination provides multiple zones for relaxing, dining, and entertaining.

To complete the project, we added fresh landscaping around the retaining walls, patio, and deck to soften the hardscape and blend the space into the natural surroundings. New plantings, mulch, and finishing details brought the entire design together for a clean, polished look.
